Today i saw a lot of things i thought that i would never see. The things i saw had me feeling mixed emotions. The first thing i saw was a clip of what people would do to stand for our rights;but what really amazed me is they stood up for their rights without being violent. This amazed me because i know that i could not do that. I mean they were hit with water hoses and were attacked by police dogs.
I also saw the balcony where Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated. What really touched me was the balcony had been stained with his blood. I can just imagine what his kids went through when they found out their dad was gone. That is what i saw today.

Visiting the Lorraine Hotel today was a very wonderful experience. I was able to talk to the lady by the name of Jacqueline, who protest against the National Civil Rights Museum. She believed that the National Civil Rights Museum should be a place for the poor and less fortunate families. It should be decreased in value because that's what Martin Luther King was about....humanity. She felt that it wasn't important for people to be able to visit where Martin Luther King Jr. had been killed and see the bed he slept in because it was disrespectful. I partly understand where she is coming from. I have a moderate opinion on this subject of the matter because I also feel the museum is a great way to remember and honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I enjoyed the museum and think it should remain there. Jacqueline thinks otherwise and has been protesting for 21 years and 147 days.
ReplyDeleteToday, June 15,2009, I also visited the Stax Records Museum. It was such a wonderful thing to experience. I was able to hear the real music that made the music of today. I was also able to get to know a little more about the history of the Stax Museum. The Stax Museum had artist from everywhere. People such as Issac Hayes, Bill Cosby, James Brown, Otis Redding, Ike and Tina Turner, Carla Thomas and many more. Stax Records really deserved the name of "Soulville" USA. I really am enjoying my experience of the civil rights tour and is looking forward to more.
The National Civil Rights Museum that i had a chance to vists was nice. It was sad but good to know and see how Dr. Martin Luther King got killed. One of the quotes that really caught my attention was that the civil right movement envision a more unfified and equal society and culture. Utilizing protest techniques as well as legal action it ensure that barries were removed from schools and business; from the sale of public places. A lady ny the name of jacqueline protested right by the museum expressing how she feels.
ReplyDeleteThe Stax Museum meant so much to Memphis they felt like that was all they had went different and talented people produce their music in there such as Issac Hayes, Ike and Tina, The temptations and more. If MLK wouldnt got killed in Memphis Stax Rec. would still be operating. Stax went down in 1974. Now that its turn into a museum it is very nice inside to have the people clothes, shoes, record players, cars and more was a great experince for me and i enjoyed it.
WOW - You all are really taking in a lot and even meeting folks up close and personal. It's great that you got to meet 'Jacqueline' as well because not everyone will have the same experience.
ReplyDeleteFor us (as a culture) to have some so far, Rev. MLK had to endure his journey for the hundreds of others to demonstrate the love and peace that he taught through his 'nonviolence & peace' movement to freedom.
Keep the great stories and experiences coming - I'm beyond proud of ALL OF YOU !!!
