This blog represents a part of the effort to document my sabbatical project at Pfeiffer University. Partnering with the Stratford-Richardson YMCA of Charlotte, NC, I created a program to engage jr/sr high students in an in depth study of the Civil Rights Movement. The highlight of the program is a week-long tour of the South. My students and I will trace our experiences here.
Hello, Civil Rights History Group--I am Michael's friend Mary, in Oregon. Michael and I (and others) toured together last spring to some Civil Rights sites. One thing I learned was that the tour is a "triple journey." You tour the landscape, and you tour the history, and you tour your heart as you consider what the history and the landscape mean to you and your future. Enjoy your tours and keep on blogging.
ReplyDeleteI am twice your age and just a few short months ago made a pilgrimage to the Lorraine Hotel. Jackie was there that day too. Hers is an interesting story and point. How do we honor the past and live into the "Beloved Community" that MLK,Jr. and others invited us into? I look forward to following you all. Micheal and I went to College together and I admire what all of you are doing.
